India’s Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities — home to over 60% of the country’s school-age population — represent the fastest- growing market for online STEM kit procurement. This paper examines digital commerce adoption patterns among STEM kit buyers in non-metropolitan Indian cities, surveying 100 customers across Nashik, Nagpur, Vadodara, Coimbatore, Bhopal, and Jaipur. Key barriers identified include digital payment hesitation (42%), product quality concerns (38%), and delivery reliability doubts (31%). Platforms offering Cash on Delivery, quality guarantees, and pan-India fast delivery overcome these barriers most effectively. SmartXProKits.in, headquartered in Nashik, is examined as a case study of a Tier 2 platform achieving pan-India reach.
