Abstract :

This study investigates the intricate discourses surrounding the meat–sex nexus. Through an analysis of a major dataset comprising meat-related tweets with sexual content, the study delves into the cultural and gender dynamics involved. Employing word counts and objective hermeneutics, these findings are interpreted through the theoretical frameworks established by Carol J. Adams (1990), Jacques Derrida (1990), and other contemporary narratives in which the consumption of meat often reflects deeper societal and cultural values. The study elucidates how the image of meat is helpful in both bragging about and criticizing sexual practices and how the image of sex helps in the positioning of oneself relative to meat consumption. These findings enhance the understanding of the social and cultural ramifications of these discourses, thereby contributing to the broader discourse on gender, food, and societal norms.
