Abstract :
Global business landscapes have changed due to the quick development of e-commerce, which presents both special challenges and enormous potential for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs). Through digital channels, e-commerce helps SMEs to improve consumer engagement, save operating expenses, and reach a wider audience. However, its full potential is hampered by adoption constraints like poor technology infrastructure, low levels of digital literacy, complicated regulations, and cybersecurity worries, especially in developing nations. The growth of e-commerce was further encouraged by the COVID-19 pandemic, which highlighted its importance in maintaining resilience and business continuity. Despite this, SMEs frequently find it difficult to incorporate e-commerce into their operations because of high implementation costs, a lack of technical knowledge, and pressure from larger companies to compete. SMEs need to invest in cybersecurity, use digital marketing, and implement data driven tactics to improve customer experiences if they want to succeed. By enhancing internet accessibility, creating laws that support it, and encouraging digital literacy, governments and legislators may create a favourable atmosphere. SMEs who adjust to these changes and overcome obstacles will be better equipped to participate in the digital economy, spurring innovation and economic expansion, as e-commerce keeps growing. In addition to providing insights into methods for sustainable growth in an increasingly digital environment, this paper underscores the dual nature of e-commerce as an opportunity and a threat for SMEs.
