Abstract :
This study explores the level of perception among households in Coimbatore city regarding the recent rise in inflation rates. It aims to understand how inflation is perceived, experienced, and managed across different socio-economic groups. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire administered to a diverse sample of households. The study focuses on key areas such as inflation awareness, perceived impact on household expenses, and changes in spending behaviour. Findings reveal that while most households are aware of rising prices, their understanding of the causes of inflation varies widely. Middle- and lower-income groups reported higher levels of financial strain, often leading to reduced discretionary spending and a focus on essential needs. Education and occupation were found to significantly influence perception and coping strategies. Many respondents expressed dissatisfaction with current governmental measures to curb inflation and emphasized the need for better financial education and policy clarity. Overall, the study highlights the importance of public awareness and engagement in economic issues. It recommends targeted financial literacy programs and support systems to help households adapt to inflationary pressures, particularly among vulnerable populations.
