Abstract :

The Bhakti movement was the primary source of folk culture in India. This egalitarian movement brought equality to society and made an important shift in the fields of dance, music, and drama. This movement followed the principles of monotheism and neglected the norms of idolatry. It started with the idea of egalitarianism and spreading the best path to reach God. This study focuses on the evolution of the Bhakti movement and how it influenced Assam’s social reformer, Srimanta Sankardeva, the originator of the Ankiya Nata in Assam; his philosophy and ideas were inspired by the Vaishnavite movement, which was also the mutation part of the Bhakti movement. He devoted his life to the welfare of the people of Assam. This study explores the essential aspects of the Bhakti movements and its philosophy, how they exalted the Ankiya Nata, and also how it became Assam’s most celebrated folk art. The methodology uses textual analysis of the secondary data.
