Abstract :

Ensuring railway safety and efficiency is a critical challenge, and automation plays a key role in mitigating risks. This paper explores the implementation of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) in railway safety systems, focusing on automated railway gate control, track failure detection, and accurate train signaling. The Automatic Railway Gate Control System utilizes a PLC, magnetic limit switches, a DC gear motor, and a motor driver to automate gate operations based on train movement. This system minimizes human error, reduces accidents, and enhances safety at railway crossings. Additionally, Smart Accident Prevention Systems leverage PLCs, vibration or sound sensors, and microcontrollers to detect railway track failures, such as cracks, ensuring early intervention and preventing derailments. Furthermore, accurate train signaling systems using magnetic position sensors improve train detection precision, reducing the risks associated with manual signal errors. These sensors ensure seamless communication between trains and railway authorities, enhancing operational safety. By integrating automation technologies, PLC-based railway safety systems offer reliable, efficient, and cost-effective solutions for accident prevention and human safety, contributing to the upgrade of railway infrastructure.
