Abstract :

Road accidents due to over speeding are a major concern in modern transportation. The Smart Speed Regulation System (SSRS) aims to enhance road safety by automatically monitoring and controlling vehicle speed based on real-time speed limits. This system integrates GPS-based speed limit detection, wireless data transmission, real-time speed monitoring, driver alerts, and automated braking to ensure compliance with road safety regulations. The proposed system consists of a mobile-based Python server, a NodeMCU (ESP8266) module, an Arduino microcontroller, an IR sensor, a Bluetooth module, and a braking mechanism. The mobile phone acts as a GPS module and runs a Python server that fetches the current speed limit based on GPS coordinates. This speed limit is transmitted wirelessly via TCP/IP to the NodeMCU, which relays it to the Arduino through Serial Communication (UART). The Arduino continuously monitors the vehicle speed using an IR sensor and compares it with the received speed limit. If the vehicle exceeds the permitted speed, the system triggers an overspeed warning via Bluetooth to notify the driver. If the driver fails to slow down, the system automatically applies the brake for a short duration and then releases it to ensure controlled speed reduction. The SSRS system is a cost-effective and efficient solution for intelligent speed management, significantly reducing the risk of accidents due to overspeeding. By integrating IoT, real-time data processing, and automated control mechanisms, this project contributes to the development of smart and safe transportation system’s.
